Don Wands: Ruling Wand, Blue Nubby Buddy, & Storage Pouch

Don Wands: Ruling Wand, Blue Nubby Buddy & Padded Pouch Combo

PACKAGING:

I bought this particular pack about a year and a half ago, on sale, at a brick and mortar store a few states away. I couldn't resist the sale and it came with 2 glass dildos as well as a padded storage pouch. I have never seen this sold as a package anywhere else and I am so glad I snapped it up on impulse like I did. I had been wanting to try some glass and this was my chance to do so. They came in a simple molded plastic packaging and small paper insert. I was not writing reviews when I purchased this item so I unfortunately have no pictures to show you.

MATERIAL/TEXTURE:

Both dildos are made of a strong tempered glass, similar to the Pyrex bake wear in your kitchen cupboard. Tempered glass is a safety glass that is not only much stronger than normal glass, but if ever broken the glass will break into larger chunks rather than shatter everywhere. Tempered glass is completely body safe and hypoallergenic for those that have to worry about skin sensitivity or allergies. The dildos are both smooth to the touch. The Ruling Wand has 4 rings under a round, pink ball on one end and matching clear ball on the opposite end. The Nubby Buddy has small, blue bumps along its smooth surface for a tempting texture.
.

SIZE:

The Ruling Wand measures in at 8 1/4 inches in total length. The ribbed area and pink ball are 3 1/2 inches long, which is plenty of surface for vaginal or clitoral stimulation. Coming from the other end, the shaft and clear ball are 4 3/4 inches long with the shaft having a diameter of 3/4 of an inch and both balls and the ribbed area having a diameter of 1 1/4 inches. This dildo weighs roughly a pound.

The Nubby Buddy is 7 3/4 inches in total length, 6 1/2 inches insertable from the base of the shaft to the tip. The single ball has a diameter of 1 1/4 inches, while the shaft has a diameter of 3/4 inch. The Nubby Buddy gets its name from the small blue bumps dotting its surface.

FUNCTION:

The Ruling Wand is a truly versatile toy. The ribbed side is great for those that like a little more girth and since glass is a completely inflexible material the hardness can often make it seem a bit bigger when in use. The other end with the single ball is great for reaching the g-spot and not too much to handle, perfect for warming up to the more textured side. This toy could be used for anal if care is taken to ensure the dildo does not get lost. Because of its weight, the Ruling Wand is also ideal for a light muscle massage during foreplay or after a long day at work and chasing the kids, and you can even use it to perform kegels. The Nubby Buddy could also be a dual ended toy, however it is much easier to use it while holding onto the ball.

PERFORMANCE:

This package was my first experience with glass and it opened my eyes to new textures and materials available today. The ridges of the ruling wand gave an added sensual texture while the firmness of the glass gives a feeling of fullness. The end with the single ball is perfect for hitting the g-spot. The ridges on this toy are great dotted with a touch of lube and rubbed gently on the clitoris for some foreplay stimulation. The weight of this toy adds another dimension of pleasure. Vigorous thrusting could end with an injury due to the unforgiving nature of glass, but gentle thrusting with the intense texture is bliss. If you are a little nervous about the thickness of the Ruling Wand then the Nubby Buddy is a great glass piece to start your collection. Without the ribs and only a ball on one end of the shaft, the insertable part of the Nubby Buddy is much thinner than the Ruling Wand making it more comfortable for those who prefer smaller objects. The small bumps along the shaft add a subtle texture for insertion in both the anus and the vagina. Not too large for those that may be beginning to explore anal play, I do suggest using this toy with a partner and to be careful of how far you insert the toy into the anal cavity. The Nubby Buddy was a little bit thin for my particular tastes and I found I enjoyed it much more as an anal probe or used in tandem with another dildo vaginally for a fuller feeling or with a clitoral simulator. Exercise safe sex and never switch a toy from the anus to the vagina or from one person to another without a thorough washing or changing the condom protecting the toy.

Glass can be cool feeling on first contact, but quickly warms up to body temperature. Glass also retains heat or cold making them ideal for temperature play, however they should never be put in the microwave or freezer as too extreme of temperatures can result in injury. A cup of ice water or a mug of hot water should do the trick quite nicely while allowing you to better control the final temperature.

CLEANING:

Glass products are a breeze to clean. Nothing really sticks to their smooth, non-porous surface so you can clean your glass toy with soap and water, commercial toy cleaner, boiling, bleaching, and its even top rack dishwasher safe!!! Do take care to thoroughly clean between each little crevice on the Ruling Wand because I can imagine it would be easy to get build up in that area.

LUBE:

Glass dildos can be safety used with any type of lubricant be it oil, silicone, or water based. Another great feature of glass is that it is a non-porous surface so a little lube goes a long way and neither the lube nor your own body fluids will not be absorbed by playing with this type of toy.

POSITIVES:

This is a great product if you are interested in temperature play. Glass is completely body safe and hypoallergenic. The ease of cleaning is a huge plus for me as is its durability. Glass toys look like pieces of art, and if these ones had flat bases I would leave them out as decorations in my bedroom.

NEGATIVES:

Although my glass came with a storage pouch, most do not. Tempered glass is very durable but it is wise to invest in a padded storage pouch for any glass dildos you plan to add to your collection. I fit both of my Don Wands into the pouch they came with but if I add anymore glass to my toy box I plan to purchase another padded pouch for storage.

STORAGE POUCH:

My pink Storage Pouch is 100% polyester and fluffy enough to hold both of my toys safely without me having to worry about them breaking against one another or any other hard surfaces. Measuring 8 1/2 inches to the bottom of the drawstring (9 inches long total) and 5 inches wide and about 2 inches of uncompressed padding, this storage pouch by Don Wands is like two small pillows sewed together to create this nestling cloud for my beloved glass toys to live in. This is a great way to travel with a toy or two but some may find this pouch too thick for their daily toy box storage needs. The tag has some cleaning instruction for hand washing in cold water and hanging to dry. I would suggest a moist cloth for spot cleaning.

Strap Ons

A strap on dildo is meant to be worn, usually by some type of harness, while engaging in sexual activity. Strap-on dildos can be used to engage in solo or mutual masturbation or for penetrative oral, vaginal, or anal sex. Anyone, regardless of gender or sexuality, can use a strap on. There are a variety of different harness types as well as materials. A strap on should fit your body snugly but comfortably as you will likely be using it for thrusting and you don't want chaffing to ruin the mood!!! Some strap on harnesses will have straps to go around your waist and each thigh while others can be pulled on like a pair of underwear. *TIP: If your harness irritates your skin try wearing a pair of men's boxer briefs underneath the harness to protect your skin.* Some harnesses come with a dildo, whereas other harnesses require you to purchase the dildo separately. Find out if the harness you are considering has interchangeable rings (basically cock rings used to hold the dildo in its proper position in the harness) because this could limit the size of the dildo that you can use with that model. Some harnesses come complete with places to insert vibrators or dildos for anal and/or vaginal stimulation of the wearer. Strap on dildos don't just have to be worn around the waist. Currently there are products available to strap onto the face for use in oral sex (penetration while your partner is stimulating your clitoris or penis at the same time), the thigh, and even to strap to your pillow or chair. Women who plan to wear and use a strap on may also want to consider a "strapless strap on." This type of strap on does not have a harness to which it is attached but rather works by one end being inserted into the wearers vagina while she uses the opposite end to penetrate her partner. This allows both the wearer and the recipient to receive penetrative stimulation.

Toys for Boys

here are quite a few toys on the market today that are focused on the males pleasure. We covered prostate massagers in the Anal post but here we will dive a little deeper into the world of adult products for men. From sleeve masturbaters to life size dolls, pumps to extenders, and rings to cages, there is a toy for every boy. Lets look at a few of the options that are made with the man in mind.

-Masturbaters
Often masturbater are made of a silicone, jelly, or life-like material and are created to recreate the feel of entering and thrusting in a vagina, anus, or mouth.  They can be just the sleeve itself or the sleeve may be contained in a case to assist with ease of stroking. There are also full size replications of the vagina, butt, and legs as well as full body replicas and miniature torsos.

-Penis Pumps
Penis pumps are designed to pull blood into the penis, enlarging the tissue and engorging the veins to produce a harder, thicker erection... temporarily. Pumps work by creating a vacuum in a cylinder which encourages the blood to enter the penis. Some models of penis pumps are designed to also be used a masturbaters. A sleeve is placed inside of the cylinder then the vacuum suction imitates the feeling of receiving oral sex.

-Penis Rings
These rings are designed to fit snugly around the base of the penis and to help maintain a harder, thicker erection. Rings are the ideal way prolong the effects of using a penis pump. Also available are penis rings with vibrating bullets attached often to the top or bottom, and sometimes both, to stimulate a womans clitoris or a man testicles. Penis rings are also great additions to your favorite vibrator or dildo for that little something extra.

-Penis Cages
Like the rings, cages are meant to be placed around the penis and/or testicles. Typically used in BDSM play, penis cages can be used to prevent erections, to gently stretch and tug on the skin surrounding the testicles, or to force male chastity preventing the wearer from engaging in intercourse or masturbation.

-Penis Extensions
There are several types of penis extenders in the adult toy world. Extenders can be used to increase the length or the girth of the penis for more pleasurable play for the wearers partner. Most commonly made of life like materials, some extenders are sleeves that are placed onto the penis. Some extension devices are made to increase the length and girth of the penis using traction devices are also available. These traction devices require months of use for hours at a time for optimum results.

-Prostate Massage
As stated in the post  "Anal & Nipples," prostate massagers are created specifically stimulate the male prostate. Many men report stronger and more intense orgasms when using a prostate massaging product. By massaging the prostate you will stimulate the base of the penis, where the nerve endings are located.

Anal & Nipples

Now that we have discussed the differences in dildos and vibrators, lets explore a little further. Today I would like to talk about anal and nipple toys. Both are highly underrated erogenous zones that could help push you from "o" to "O."

Anal

No, don't cringe!!! Your backdoor can be quite an erogenous zone if you just give it a try!!! Just remember to use lots of lube (more than you think necessary), patience, and trust. The thin, fragile tisseue of the anus does not produce its own lubrication and can be injured very easily. Start small and slow, then you can gradually increase in size over several sessions until you find the perfect toy for you. For safety never switch your toys between the anus and the vagina without thoroughly washing it first. Anal toys come in 3 basic categories: plugs, beads, and the prostate massager.

-Anal Plugs
Used to get the body comfortable with anal insertion, anal plugs are meant to be put in and kept in not for penetration. There are plugs from small beginner sizes to large plugs for the more advanced anal fans. Anal plugs often have a pointed tip and flared base. The flare in the base is designed to keep the toy in place safely.

-Beads
Anal beads are small spheres connected by a string with a handle on the end or a line of connected spheres with a flared base. Inserting each bead individually while engaged in foreplay or intercourse can bring pleasure as well as popping each bead out slowly during climax to increase intensity. Anal beads should always be inspected before use for any flaws and then cleaned thoroughly after use.

-Prostate Massager
Originally designed to provide relief for men suffering from an enlarged prostate, many doctors found that their devices were not being returned. Patients expressed their reluctance to return the devices because they were allowing them to experience orgasms far more intense than they had previously enjoyed. The prostate is often referred to as the "p-spot" or male "g-spot" because of its sexual sensitivity.

Nipples

Women's (and some men's) nipples can be an erogenous zone all on its own. There are a variety of toys designed for playing with this sensitive part of the body. Nipple clamps (some of which have adjustable clamps for more complete control of the "bite"), suction toys, and edible, flavored creams or gels can bring a new measure of erotica into your love life.

A Few Basics: Dildos & Vibrators

Lets take today to talk about some of the different types of adult toys. You can find nearly anything you can imagine in a sex toy but we will be covering some of the basics now. Keep in mind that finding the right toy for you is all about your own personal preference. What your best friend likes may not be right for you, so try to keep an open mind and don't be afraid of a little experimentation. You may surprise yourself!!! There are a few safety "rules" to keep in mind when enjoying your toys and it is good practice to make them a part of your playtime routine. Inspect your toy before each use. Check for any signs of wear like cuts or cracks where the toy may be hard to clean or harbor bacteria. If your toy has cracked or cut then please discontinue use. Clean your toy after EVERY use. A clean toy is a happy toy!!! Some toys are dishwasher safe (top rack) or can be cleaned with soap and water. There are even toy cleaners on the market for convenience. Just spray on, wait a few moments, and wipe clean.

Dildos

Dildos are basically a phallic object meant to be inserted vaginally, anally, orally, or a combination of them or even used to stroke the clitoris. A Dildo can be made of any number of materials and sole purpose is penetration and stroking. Many popular models of dildos are imitations of a real penis, some even complete with realistic veins and a life-like feel. Dildos offer the greatest amount of control allowing you to determine thrusting speed, motion, depth, angle, and any other inspired ideas. Depending on the size of the dildo it can be used to imitate oral play, can be carefully inserted into the anus while engaging in anal play, or used in the place of a real penis for solo play or during intimate moments with your partner. Speaking of partner play, Guys don't be intimidated by a dildo in your bed because you can have just as much fun with this toy as she does!!! You can use it to play with her or watch her play with herself. It may even open up a whole new horizon in your love life.  Dildos can cost anywhere from under $20 to several hundreds of dollars based on the material used, shape, and size. While more expensive does not directly indicate that it is a "better" toy keep in mind that a quality toy that will last a lifetime is not going to be cheap. Don't be afraid to invest in a quality toy that will bring you and your partner pleasure for a long time to come because I assure you that you will appreciate the investment.

Dildos come in a variety of shapes, colors, materials, and sizes. The key is to find what gets YOU going.

Vibrators

A vibrator is any toy with electrical or mechanical device used to massage or arouse. If it takes batteries or plugs into a wall, its a vibrator. Like dildos, vibrators come in a myriad of colors, shapes, textures, and many have multiple functions. External stimulation, internal stimulation, or a combination of both, there is a vibrator to fit your needs-you just have to find it. Many women find that a vibrator will help them achieve a much more intense orgasm than they may experience with intercourse or manual stimulation. Vibrators are also great toys for foreplay between couples and can really get your motor running!!!

-External Stimulation
Ladies looking for clitoral stimulation and guys that want some testicular stimulation may be interested in an external devise. These are vibrators that are meant purely for topical use. Love eggs, or bullets, are small, usually cylindrical, devices meant to stroke the clitoris or testicles and can induce or intensify orgasm. Bullets come in many different options including a self contained, batter operated models, models that have a cord to the battery pack and function controls, and wireless models. Bullets tend to be small (around one-inch in length) and may have multiple functions or just one or two.

-Internal Stimulation
For those interested in internal stimulation there are products designed to feel like the real thing, cylindrical models, wands and even abstract designs from which to choose. There are models that plug into the wall, some that run on batteries, and others that are recharged through a stand or USB cable.

-Combination Stimulation
Combination vibrators are most commonly referred to as a "rabbit" vibrator. This is because not only is there an internal device that can thrust, spin, pulse, or any other function options, but also has an external device that is commonly seen covered by a sleeve imitating an animal shape. Designed to both fill the vagina and stimulate the clitoris, rabbit vibrators are popular with many women.

Lubricant & Product Materials

Let start by discussing lubrication and the various materials used in adult toys. As with all adult products, the lube and toy material you choose will be based upon your own particular likes and needs. I highly recommend visiting a local brick and mortar store and ask the knowledgeable sales staff if you can examine products that intrigue you a bit closer. They may have some products that you can touch for yourself so you can get a better idea of what material appeals to you.

Lubricants

I cannot say enough about lubricants. Whether engaged in solo play or enjoying some intimate  moments with your partner, lubricants increase sensitivity and can ease discomfort from friction. Lubricant is excellent for women whose bodies may not produce adequate natural lubrication for comfort. Those that enjoy anal play will also find how vital a good lubricant is when playing with those areas that do not produce their own lubricant. There are two basic types of lubricants: silicone and water based.

-Silicone Lubricants
Silicone based lubricants tend to be a bit more slippery, an almost silky feel to the touch, and lasts longer than water based lubes. They tend to be a bit more pricey but since a small amount goes a long way (a couple drops to start, you can always add more if needed!!!) a small bottle of silicone based lubricant will last you for a while. Silicone lubricants are perfect for water play since they need soap to be washed away, and anal play due to its long lasting properties. Be aware that because silicone lubricants need soap to be completely cleaned away that it can cause your shower to become slippery so use caution. The downside is that silicone toys are not compatible with many silicone lubricants and some condoms because the combination can begin to break down the toy or condom.

-Water Lubricants
Water based lubricants come in a several varieties including a thin liquid or thicker gel, flavors, and sensations. Water lubes most closely resemble the feel of natural fluids and wash easily from the body, toy, sheets, and upholstery. Thinner liquid lubes are great for general and all-around play while the thicker gel or jelly type consistencies are ideal for longer love sessions. While water based lubricants can be used for anal play (thicker is usually better in this instance) they can dry out or be absorbed by the skin resulting in discomfort and too much friction after a short while. Flavored lubes are perfect for oral sex and can help enhance the givers experience. Sensation lubes are available in tingling and warming. Tingling lubes generally contain some form of menthol that create a pleasant and different sensation during love making. Warming lubes will gently warm when they come into contact with the skin or body fluids.

Materials

This would be a great time to explore some of the available materials that you can find in your adult toy. The first question to consider is whether you want your toy to be porous or non porous. Porous materials can be more life like but special care must be taken to ensure your toy is extra clean after every use as bacteria can hide in the pore-like openings in the material. Also, porous toys are known to absorb lube much more easily and so you may need to reapply during play. Non-porous toys, on the other hand, do not have these tiny openings and are much easier to keep clean. Non-porous toys do not absorb lubrication so just a little bit goes a long way.

-Silicone
Silicone is a very popular, high quality material that can be found online or in any adult toy store. With a life-like feel and the ability to retain body heat, silicone is a non-porous material that will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. They are very easy to clean and dishwasher safe (top rack).  Silicone is also hypoallergenic so even those with sensitive skin should have no problem using toys of this material but if you have any concerns please discuss them with your physician. They are not repairable so if any imperfection or damage should occur please be prepared to replace your toy. Silicone lubricants are not recommended with these toys.

-Latex
Latex is a common material used in adult toys and can be found almost anywhere. This is a porous surface so latex toys much be cleaned very thoroughly to prevent the buildup of germs and harmful bacteria. It is a bit less life-like than the silicone toys and a bit softer but will still leave you satisfied!!! Those that like the feel of the latex but may have allergies may enjoy jelly or silicone toys.

-Jelly
Jelly toys are affordable and fun with a myriad of shapes, sizes, and colors. Jelly toys tend to be a bit more delicate so carefully examine for flaws before use. It is also a porous material so cleanliness is key. Jelly toys are great for those just getting started or wanting to explore different sizes or shapes without spending a fortune.

-Lifelike
Closest feeling to real human skin, toys using life-like materials are a treasured addiction to any toy collection. They are a porous material but worth the extra effort if you enjoy that real feeling. Lifelike toys should be stored separately from your other toys to prevent decomposition from direct contact.

-Acrylic
A hard, plastic-y material, acrylic toys are perfect for those that like their toys very firm. Acrylic has no "give" making it perfect for applying heavy pressure to those sensitive spots. Non-porous and easy to clean acrylic toys are also inexpensive and great for the beginners and experienced alike.

-Glass
I know what you are thinking :"Glass?? What if something happens??" No worries, the glass used to make adult toys is similar in composition to the Pyrex in your bake ware and created by the artists that blow glass pipes. Built to last, glass toys are hard like acrylic and designed for both vaginal and anal play, glass is a great addition to any collection. Hypo-allergenic, non-porous, and even dishwasher safe (top rack) glass toys are easy to maintain and difficult to damage. The glass also hold temperature allowing you to run it under hot or cold water for a warming or cooling sensation (please do NOT place your glass toy in the microwave or freezer. Having a toy too hot or too cold can damage the sensitive skin of your private areas!!!). Glass toys tend to be a bit pricier but with proper care and maintenance they can last a lifetime.

-Metal
A rare find, metal toys are hypo-allergenic, non-porous, and capable of withstanding extensive use. Metal toys are expensive but you wont have to worry about replacing it so it is truly a one-time expense. Metal toys start off cool to the touch but warm up to body temperature with use. Just be careful with metal toys as any sudden or sharp motions can damage or bruise your pelvic bone and sensitive internal tissue.

-Wood
Natural and eco friendly, wood toys are true works of art. Shaped, sanded smooth, then coated in an FDA approved food-safe varnish or varnish used in children's toys, wood toys are also built to last. They quickly warm to body temperature, are lightweight, and easy to clean. Perfect for the environmentally friendly toy lover.
